The 2026 AI Infrastructure Subsidy Explained

The Ontario government, in partnership with the Ontario Digital Academy (ODA), has officially launched the 2026 AI Infrastructure Grant. Designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), this program provides up to $15,000 in non-repayable funding to help local businesses adopt enterprise-grade artificial intelligence and automation tools.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the grant, your business must meet the following criteria under the Ontario NPO regulations and Ministry of Economic Development guidelines:

  • Be a registered for-profit business operating in Ontario (with a strong emphasis on the GTA, including Mississauga and Peel Region).

  • Have between 2 and 99 full-time equivalent employees.

  • Demonstrate a clear need for digital infrastructure upgrades (e.g., transitioning from manual spreadsheets to automated CRM systems).

  • Commit to completing the ODA's AI Literacy Lab training.

What Does the Grant Cover?

Unlike previous broad-stroke digital grants, the 2026 initiative is highly targeted. Eligible expenses include:

  • Command Center Setup:Subsidized integration of unified communications (SMS, Email, Voice) into a single secure dashboard.

  • AI Workflow Automation:Implementation of custom AI agents for customer service and administrative task automation.

  • Training & Onboarding:Costs associated with upskilling your team to use these new tools effectively.

How to Apply

The application process has been streamlined for speed. First, complete the ODA Quick Eligibility Check. If your business qualifies, you will be immediately directed to book a consultation with an ODA grant advisor who will help you prepare the necessary documentation, including your baseline digital health assessment.

"The manual tax is real. SMEs in Mississauga are losing an average of 14 hours a week on tasks that AI can now handle in minutes. This grant is about leveling the playing field." — ODA Director of Digital Strateg
